Ride the Coaching Carousel

TEAM

OLD COACH

NEW COACH

Arkansas

Houston Nutt
Nutt resigned rather than being fired as was first suspected. Houston compiled a 10-year record of 75-48 (.610) and two trips to the conference championship game. Word is they tried to keep Nutt but he shunned them, and who wouldn't after the way he was treated. I would not be Surprise if Nutt had the job at Mississippi before he left the Hogs

Mike Leach of Texas Tech? That would be a crazy hire, but apparently he is the frontrunner.

Will Muschamp,maybe not ready
Jim Grobe
is a good idea, Tommy Tuberville not happening Chris Petersen no one really knows but Nutt came from Boise Bo Pelini going to Nebraska Gary Patterson, Butch Davis
just signed an extension, Brian Kelly

Baylor

Guy Morriss
Morriss was unable to produce a winning record in his five seasons, going 18-40 overall and 7-33 in Big 12 games. It's frickin Baylor, give the guy a chance, what is their ceiling anyway?

Rumor oddly enough was Houston Nutt until he took the Ole Miss job, who the hell will Baylor hire now? Art Briles
interviewing, Chris Petersen, Paul Johnson, Terry Bowden, Larry Fedora Who? Mike Singletary was a shoe in but he pulled his name from consideration to stay in the NFL.

Duke

Ted Roof
Duke has lost at least 10 games in three straight seasons, including a winless 2006. Roof finished his Duke tenure with a 6-45 record and only won one game in 2006 and 2007 combined.

Steve Logan, Chan Gailey, Gary Crowton, Charlie Weatherbie, Mike O'Cain, Paul Johnson, Rod Broadway (coach at Grambling), Turner Gill.

Georgia Tech

Chan Gailey

Gailey was 44-32 in six seasons at Georgia Tech but 0-6 against rival Georgia and I believe they have not lost less than 5 games since he has been there.

Rick Neuheisel, Randy Edsall, Will Muschamp, Skip Holtz, Jimbo Fisher

Michigan

Lloyd Carr
The Carr era was marked by highs of winning a national title and five Big Ten crowns and lows of losing (a lot) to Ohio State. Carr's .752 winning percentage (121-40) ranks seventh among active coaches.

Les Miles
seems obvious, but I don't think it happens, Brian Kelly, Cam Cameron, Kirk Ferentz, Bob Stoops, Mike Trgovac.

Mississippi

Ed Orgeron
Coach O was fired a day after the Rebels blew a game against Mississippi State to finish the season 3-9 and go winless in the conference for the first time since 1982.

Houston Nutt: Ole Miss has had four or fewer wins in the last four seasons. Nutt is a great hire for the Rebels

Nebraska

Bill Callahan
Callahan's four-year stay was marked by the most embarrassing losses at a football program once among the mightiest. Interim AD Tom Osborne announced the dismissal one day after the Cornhuskers ended the season at 5-7 but we all knew it was coming.

Bo Pelini is the hire.

Turner Gill, Jim Grobe, Paul Johnson, Brian Kelly, former Wisconsin coach Barry Alvarez.

Northern Illinois

Joe Novak
Novak, who won more games than any Northern Illinois coach in modern history, announced his retirement after 12 seasons.

Scott Shafer, Mike Hagan, Mike Locksley, Mike Haywood, Pat Narduzzi, Jerry Kill.

SMU

Phil Bennett

Bennett, who is 18-48 in six seasons, will finish out the season. Expectations were high entering this season, with Bennett predicting the school's first bowl game since it received the NCAA-mandated death penalty in 1987.

Chan Gailey, Terry Bowden, Paul Johnson, Jon Tenuta, Major Applewhite.

Southern Miss

Jeff Bower
Bower resigned after capping his 14th consecutive winning season, ending a 29-year relationship as player and coach with the Golden Eagles despite accepting his 10th bowl invitation in the last 11 seasons.

Larry Fedora, Will Muschamp, Major Applewhite, Matt Viator

Texas A&M

Dennis Franchione

Franchione came to Texas A&M to restore the glory to the Aggies. He left with a mediocre record and an embarrassing scandal on his resume. Franchione resigned, ending a rocky five-year tenure.

Mike Sherman the former Green Bay Packers head coach and current Houston Texans assistant was hired to succeed Franchione. He was 57-39 in six seasons with Green Bay.

Washington State

Bill Doba
Doba and the Cougars agreed to part ways after after a 5-7 season in which the team missed going to a bowl game for a fourth consecutive year.

Mike Price
looks like he may be returning to his old job, Chris Petersen, Paul Wulff, Ed Orgeron, John L. Smith, Bob Gregory, Pat Hill

Colorado State

Sonny Lubick

Retiring a good head coach
